The MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold “Cold Moon.” is the latest release of this collaboration and it is a beautiful one and combined with their sales strategy is something unseen before in the watch industry. And it’s good, it creates a buzz.

We all appreciate the Swatch X Omega collaboration because with their first release, they put watches on people’s hands that weren’t into watches. That way they opened the doors for new people to enter the watch collecting Game.

This Cold Moon Edition is a significant departure from the previous watches released due to the inverted color scheme. Earlier models featured blue Bioceramic cases unlike Cold Moon which has an all white aesthetic that captures the essence of winter and snowfall.

The Bioceramic case has 42mm in dimensions and houses a white opaline dial which creates a winterish appearance.  They inverted the color scheme, so now the white marking are replaced with blue color ones and we can see them on tachymeter scale and dial text

The blue material is also used for hands and earthphase/moonphase complications.

MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold Cold Moon Unique Snowflake Engravings

For me this is the most distinctive feature of the watch! Each watch features a laser engraved snowflake design on one of the Moonshine Gold coated moon discs. The inspiration came from the nature variety and uniqueness.

Each snowflake is unique, like real snowflakes, and this ensures us that each watch is one of a kind.

EarthPhase and Moonphase Complications

We still have the same special dual complications that define the Mission to Earthphase series. Between 2 and 3 o’clock we have the twin moonphase display, decorated with Omega’s Moonshine Gold. This toned yellow gold alloy adds a subtle luxury.

At 10 o’clock position we have the earthphase indicator which offers a unique perspective on celestial mechanics. It doesn’t show how the moon appears from Earth, but it displays how Earth appears from the Moon.

This reversal follows a 29.5 day cycle and we observe a full Moon, the indicator shows a “new Earth” and vice versa.

Which is a cool gimmick to have. Honestly, this is why we pay for watches these days.

Snoopy is Dressed for winter

Snoopy and Woodstock appear on the dial at 9 o’clock and of course it’s equipped with winter gear to reflect the seasonal winter release.

On the display we have an hidden message, which can be seen with UV light  near the characters and it says: “I beat everybody…”. The message is a reference to a 1969 Peanuts comic strip where Snoopy claimed to reach the Moon before Russians or NASA.

The Sales Strategy

They are doing a cool thing actually, and I think it’s the first strategy like this in the watch industry. Maybe I’m wrong. I have seen this in other industries, for example in the Summer, Orange had a campaign that they gave discounts based on how hot it is outside.

Let’s get back to the watch, it will be released on December 4, 2025 which is also the date of the full Cold Moon and it will be available until 20th of March 2026 which is the last day of winter.

However, after 4th of December, the watch will be available to be purchased only on days when it’s snowing in Switzerland. Doesn’t have to be in all country, just any city or town.

This applies to all Swatch stores worldwide  that carry the MoonSwatch collection.

So, if you want this watch, you need to monitor Swatch’s weather forecast indicator to know when the watch becomes available.

Technical Specifications

The 42mm case is made from Bioceramic inspired by the Speedmaster design. The dial is white opaline with blue aventurine inspired hands and complications.

The movement is quartz, of course it’s chronograph and it has earthphase and moonphase indicators.  It also have Super-Luminova with UV activated secret message.

The water resistance is only 3 bar, but it’s a winter watch, you don’t want to go into the water on winter time.

Strap of the watch is White Velcro rubber with textured undersite and white bioceramic loop.

Thickness is 13.75mm and the price is CHF 350 / €385 / $450.

Would I buy it? Yes! I just need to check that damn weather and hope it is snowing somewhere in Switzerland.  With MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold “Cold Moon” release Swatch and Omega demonstrates their commitment to innovative marketing strategies within this segment of watches.

And I like it, it’s a gimmick that makes the purchase of a watch more adventurous and unforgettable .

I think it is the best release of the year. And not because of the watch, but because of the strategy.

Well done Swatch, well done…

TAGGED:
My passion for watches began around the age of 6 when I first saw a watch that seemed magical to me. It had 7 melodies, an alarm, a stopwatch, and would beep every hour. Truly advanced technology for me at the time! It belonged to my brother, but before long, he gave it to me. One of the melodies was “Oh! Susanna” by Stephen Foster, but unfortunately, I no longer remember the other six. If I had to guess, I’d say it was a Casio, as they popularized melody watches. However, the truth is I don’t remember exactly. It certainly wasn’t a Casio—most likely a cheap Chinese knockoff—but it was fascinating for a kid like me. That watch is no longer part of my life—just like many other watches that have been lost over time, without me even realizing when or how. As I write these lines, a photo from my first grade comes to mind. In it, I’m wearing a watch that’s clearly visible. Still, I don’t think it’s the melody watch I remember. On the watch in the photo, I had stuck two flags cut out from an atlas. Besides my passion for watches, I also had a fascination with maps. What can I say? Childhood quirks and passions of a kid who grew up without the internet—because it didn’t exist! Otherwise, I’ve always been told I have a talent for writing, probably because I’m not good at math at all.
